Ticonderoga! An Iroquois word, meaning "the land between the waters", describes Ticonderoga's location between Lake George on the west and Lake Champlain on the east. The lakes are connected by the La Chute River which runs over falls and a series of rapids from Lake George through the Village of Ticonderoga and empties into Lake Champlain. Because the La Chute was not navigable its full length, "the land between the waters" was first used as a portage between Lake George and Lake Champlain by American Indians. Ticonderoga is steeped in history. For the historically minded there is multitude of things to learn and explore. Here is where many battles took place during the French and Indian war and again during the America Revolution. You can learn about the legend
of Rogers Slide, how the frozen surface of Trout Brook was used as a main
pathway in winter troop movements (Trout Brook is located just across
route 9N from our private road.) and about how Rogers Rangers camped in
the vicinity of the club house of the Ticonderoga Golf and Country Club.
Ticonderoga is a great place to live and not just because of its historical past or its small village charm. We have fine restaurants, our own airport for private planes, Amtrak station, stores and shops and even our own Super Center.
